It’s apple season at Jackson’s Orchard
This week our Apple Barn is full of plenty of sweet, crunchy wonderful apples! Beginning with Red Delicious–a sweet rich red favorite; Golden Delicious –a sweet & crisp yellow apple; Fuji – a very sweet & crisp blush apple; Crispin – Bite into a Crispin for a great crunch and mouthful of sweet juice. The original name for this exceptional apple was Mutsu, reflecting its Japanese heritage. It was renamed Crispin in the late ‘60s. It is sweet, yet very refreshing, very juicy & extra crisp. Excellent for eating, sauces, baking and freezing plus is good for salads and pies; Pink Lady – This firm, pink-hued apple has a perfect sweet-tart flavor and effervescent finish.; Granny Smith –Granny Smith will make anyone’s face pucker up thanks to its strong tartness. It’s very firm with loads of juice and lemon-like acidity and just enough sweetness. It is a true use-it-for-anything apple. It’s one of the best to bake and cook with, a favorite for dipping with peanut butter, and it won’t brown quickly, making it ideal for salads, fruit platters, freezing and more. Jona-Gold – a cross between mellow Golden Delicious and tart Jonathan apples, and creates a great aroma when baked in apple pies. Honey sweet, with a hint of tartness, juicy & crisp, creamy yellow flesh. Excellent for eating, salads, sauces, and baking also good for pies and freezing. Jonagolds also make great fried apples. Simply sauté in a little butter and add a touch of cinnamon. No sugar needed.; Arkansas Black–From the Winesap family, a deep crimson, almost-black very firm and crisp apple. Perfect for baking and apple butter. Juices well, adding complex notes to homemade cider. An outstanding keeper, flavor actually improves after 30 days in the refrigerator.; Evercrisp–This cross between a Honeycrisp & Fuji was created in Ohio and is rapidly becoming one of our favorites. Sweet, juicy and firm, packing a loud crunch – this blush rosy red apple is great for snacking and maintains its firmness for weeks. ; ($4.00/qt<2lbs>|$8.00/half-peck<5lbs>|$15.00/peck<10lbs>|$22/half-bushel<21lbs> and $2.00/lb).
